Competition formats

LEAGUE PLAY

The basis of the ODPL, the league is your bread and butter tournament. Played across a promotion/relegation format, you will be entered in a league that suits your average.

Seasons consist of playing everyone in your league once or twice depending on the number of players entered, and you’ll play for your spot on a league table with the top few from each division being promoted, the bottom few being relegated.

Games are played over best-of-12 or best-of-10 legs (D5 and up play BO12, D6 and below play BO10). All matches in the league are standard in, double out, first to 501 legs.

Promotion and relegation spots are explained on the competition matrix.

Division Cups

Along with the league, all players are entered in one of four divisional cups. These are straight knockout, win or go home matches.

Games are contested over a set format. The number of sets per match changes depending on the round of the match.

ODPL Tour

The ODPL Tour is an opt in tournament where you can play in up to 8 qualifying events to earn points for an order of merit table.

There will be three categories for players to enter, based on your all time 501 average on Dart Counter.

- 55 and above

- 45-54

- 44 and below

After all 8 qualifying events have been played, the top eight players from each merit table will play off in a quarter final, semi final and then grand final to determine a winner.

Qualifying events will vary in format, changing from a group stage, league stage or straight knockout. Points will be awarded each event depending on the number of players and format.

You'll earn one point for every tournament you play and points for winning matches, making it through group stages or knockout matches.

Champions League & Battlers League

Both the Champions League (CL) and Battlers League (BL) are qualification events, where your league position from the previous season determines entry into the competitions.

Usually the winner of each division and possibily second place are entered into the CL and the third and fourth place players are entered into the BL. This changes per division however, and the exact qualifcation places can be found on the competition matrix.

Each CL and BL runs alongside the season and games are played in a group stage then knockout format, with each player getting to play another 3 or 4 games depending on group size.

ODPL Championship

This is a completely optional, paid event, running alongside the usual competition and cups, where the winner(s) will receive cash prizes for winning their competitions.

Championships will be contested across the following average categories (your average is your current league average with a minimum of three games played).

  • <40

  • 40-45

  • 45-50

  • 50-55

  • 55-60

  • >60

You'll play a group stage then knockouts with the winners and runners up taking home a cash prize. By ODPL rules, 80% of players’ funds enter the prize pool with the remaining 20% going toward admin fees such as running the website, advertising the league, etc.

Daily Tournaments

Daily tournaments run over one day (hence the name) and are usually played during the UK evening time. Keep an eye out on the announcements page for when these run and sign up for fun funky formats depending on the night.

These tournaments have no money component and are used as a bit of fun for those wanting even more darts.
